CBD for Depression

Can CBD help treat Depression?

Depression affects over 300 million people around the world, making it one of the most common diseases and mental illnesses. While it is common, everyone experiences depression differently, which can make it challenging to find a solution. Luckily, many people suffering from anxiety and depression are turning to the medicinal benefits of CBD products to treat their symptoms of depression.

CBD and Depression

Depression is a mental disorder that negatively affects one’s well-being and mental health. Symptoms of depression can manifest themselves as loss of appetite, insomnia, sadness, and feelings of worthlessness.

While the most common ways to cure depression include medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, a lot of people are turning to CBD. Using CBD for depression can alleviate the symptoms without causing any adverse side effects associated with prescription medications.

Cannabidiol CBD is a plant-based compound found in the cannabis plant. CBD is one of the many chemical compounds present in cannabis, and through several years of research has been found to have unexpected health benefits.

There is some controversy surrounding CBD. Many people mistake it for having the potential for making the consumer “high” like medical marijuana. This, however, is entirely untrue CBD. Unlike THC does not have psychoactive effects on the brain, and it doesn’t make the user feel high or euphoric.

CBD oil is created by extracting cannabidiol from cannabis and then diluting with coconut oil or hemp seed oil. CBD oil is an excellent organic remedy to relieve an individual with an array of medical ailments. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, CBD oil does not have a mind-altering impact on the consumer.

Research on CBD and Depression

According to a 2014 review of CBD studies, the substance acts as an antidepressant and antianxiety compound in animals who show signs of depressive behavior.

Another study conducted in 2011 focused on how serotonin receptors react to endocannabinoids. That study revealed evidence supporting that endocannabinoids are necessary elements for the management of stress responses.

This result suggests that using cannabinoids or CBD times of depression have the potential to regulate or alter the reaction of an individual to a stressful scenario or situation.

Many recent studies have shown that CBD decrease stress and depressive episodes in animal subjects they were tested on.

Since CBD works with the brain’s endocannabinoid receptors, there is less risk that CBD use becomes habit-forming, or addictive. This is a big reason that people are choosing CBD over other habit-forming prescriptions.

How CBD Helps Treat Depression

CBD works by making an interaction with the endocannabinoid cell receptors of the human body, which affect dopamine and serotonin production. These two are feel-good chemicals that, when released, cause the feeling of relaxation, fun, and ease. When CBD is ingested, it fosters the increase of dopamine and serotonin levels in the entire body.

However, CBD cannot wholly eradicate depression, but it can largely curb some of the symptoms and could provide relief to those who suffer from it. Studies suggest that intake of CBD oil affects its interaction with corresponding molecules and receptors that help in the regulation of necessary functions in the body like appetite, sleep, pain, and mood.

CBD vs. Pharmaceutical drugs

The first few approaches to treating depression include counseling and therapy. However, when the traditional approach falls short, doctors move toward a more substantial and practical approach. The strategy usually switches to antidepressants. These antidepressants are psychopharmacological drugs that are ingested to rectify the chemical imbalance in the patient’s brain. However, in many cases, there are several downsides to these antidepressants. The first is the fact that these antidepressants can be habit-forming. Your mind and body form a habit of their regular consumption, which makes their withdrawal full of negative symptoms.

An antidepressant can also lose its effect after a particular period. With overtime usage of these drugs, your brain becomes less responsive, which means that you will have to switch them up after a certain period has elapsed.

CBD, on the other hand, is an all natural cannabis-derived substance that has the capabilities for treating the symptoms of depression. There are also no CBD oil side effects. This is the reason why many people have started to prefer CBD over pharmaceutical drugs. In addition to its effectiveness in treating anxiety and depression, CBD is being used to treat a wide variety of ailments including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimers disease, and is used as a safer alternative for pain relief.

Before making the decision to use CBD instead of prescribed medication, always consult your health care provider or a therapist near you.
